The Art of Japanese Textiles with Emma Wilkinson

Learn how to indigo dye using Japanese Shibori and rice paste resist techniques. Then learn to use your dyed fabric to create Boro and Sashiko samplers, exploring the art of patching and decorative stitching.

Still Life Painting with Dominic Vince

Spend three sessions painting from one set up of your choice. A chance to learn how to develop your composition, colour mixing and visual analytical skills with tutor Dominic Vince. Focus will be on getting more out of the experience of looking and mixing, thinking in a more abstract and analytical way, the joy of looking and responding, and the use of painting as a jouurney that allows us to see more; concentrating on resolving a painting and taking it the full distance rather that making something "good."

The Ceramic Surface with Katch Skinner
Monday 27th to Wednesday 29th July 2026

A three day summer workshop to really immerse yourself in playful decoration of the ceramic surface. Using slips and underglazes, traditions slip trailing to stenciling. This workshop is an introduction to surface design using wet and firm surfaces. Using coloured clay slips and underglazes you will experiment with traditional tools, techniques, transfers and layers to develop decorative themes. Using a range of tools from slip trailing, brushing, mono printing, stencils and sgraffito. You will get the opportunity to really experiment with wet slip decorating and traditional pottery techniques.

Block Printed Repeat Patterns with Rachel Red
Monday 20th and Tuesday 21st July 2026
10am to 4pm
Learn to block print repeat patterns from hand carved motifs. Throughout this two day summer school you will learn about different pattern structures, design your own motif, carve it into a lino block and print it in different repeat pattern onto papers. You will produce a lot of pattern experiments which we can make into sample books. Then we will go on to printing onto fabric and you will be able to print your own unique piece of fabric or tote bag.
This course will be taught at beginner level. You will gain skills in lino printing and pattern design, and as a low tech form of printmaking, it will equip you to use the process at home.
Those with experience are also welcome to join and develop your pattern printing journey.

Abstract Mixed Media Landscapes with Amanda Allan
Wednesday 6th to Friday 8th August 2026
10am to 12.30pm
This workshop will guide you through creating abstract landscapes by combining watercolour techniques, mark making and hand stitching on paper.
Watercolour techniques will include layering, color mixing, and transparency, as well as wet-on-wet, dry brush and scratching. You will experiment with mark making using a variety of tools, such as brushes, palette knives, sponges and sticks. Then conclude with embroidery, incorporating coloured threads with techniques like stem stitch, backstitch and French knots.
Open to all skill levels, this summer school offers practical methods to spark creativity and learn techniques to add to your tool box for future projects.

Lauren Law runs our Monday Art Foundations course and is also a secondary school art teacher. George is an experienced primary educator with a background in fine art.
