Melissa Davie

Mel is an illustrator, naturalist, and science communicator from the Calder Valley, working under the name Hey Nature. She loves to explore her environment through multiple lenses—art, ecology, and folklore—drawing on her background in natural sciences and fascination with plants.

At the heart of Mel's practice is a desire to help people connect with Nature. By combining detailed pen, ink, and watercolour work with a playful children's illustration style, Mel creates illustrations and educational resources that encourage audiences—particularly young people—to engage with the natural world through curiosity and wonder.

Her work is informed by her Nature Notebooking practice, documenting investigations into plants, landscapes, and the stories they hold. You'll often find her head down amongst the plants, and imagining the creatures who might live in Nature's hidden kingdoms!
